There’s something about knowing who and who’s you are. It’s a feeling of completeness that no one can take away from you. Visualize how President Obama’s daughter would introduce herself to an audience or a new set of people. Her aura, speech and confidence will be backed up by the fact that she understands who she is and knows her background; she has been trained to understand her values and she isn’t afraid to flaunt it.
However, I believe that this kind of confidence can fade easily and isn’t always constant. Off course there are days when we don’t feel confident in ourselves or even in who our parents are or our background. In those situations, there’s something deeper that keeps us and makes us stand in the face of adversity, circumstances, shame and even inexperience. This is what I call- God Confidence.
“For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or some hidden danger]” – Proverbs 3:26
Confidence is a feeling or belief that you can do something well or succeed at something. (Merriam Webster Dictionary)
God confidence is more like a KNOWING and Strong Belief that you are deeply rooted and backed up by your creator and you know that He will NEVER leave you nor forsake you. It’s an experience that makes us take those steps even when we are going through a tough time. I believe God confidence is something more spiritual than the physical appearance that we claim as confidence.
What made people like Queen Esther, David, Paul, Peter and other great people in the bible to stand boldly, take their place and DO the Word of God? It was an inner knowing of understanding the essence of their truth (the Gospel), the importance of teaching/helping other people and also their focus on a higher calling and purpose in life.
Living in the reality of God confidence comes with experience, training, discipline and love. The training aspect helps us to love God more and generally stay connected to our power source. This source is what keeps us even during moments when we feel like we aren’t enough.
However, when we really know the Lord, we remain confident in our source, knowing that as long as we stay focused on Him, we will not run dry. We train ourselves to get to the point where we reverence Him even in the face of troubles, because we understand that we are coming out stronger, restored and whole. How awesome is that?
When we experience God confidence, God starts shaping our image and minds into accepting ourselves for who we are and then developing self-confidence and a great self-esteem in the process. This process develops our inner muscles and strengthens us as we pursue our divine calling and purpose in life.
We need to be willing to seek in order to find. It’s in the seeking stage that we truly get out of the rut of low-self esteem and all it’s siblings. That stage helps us to become more positively minded and build momentum. We won’t have to always run back to our former hiding place and dwell in the realm of negativity without understanding that we have a source that is always flowing. That’s like having a gold treasure in your backyard without even knowing it.
The question is this- Are we willing to dig out that treasure? Are we willing to renew our minds, build our inner muscles and become more confident in ourselves? Are we willing to stop allowing fear to dictate and sit on our treasures?
The answer is- All we need is love in Christ Jesus which is the ultimate thing. That is what connects us to God-confidence and finally to being self confident. If we are willing to surrender and go to Him, He will fill us, shape us and strengthen us to become the great men and women He has predestined for us to be.
It’s a process but we must be willing to go through the fire in order to come out as gold. We must be willing to come out with a God-confident mindset in order to embrace ourselves. There’s something about a man that is walking in his purpose…people will find something good and cute about him. But what they don’t know is that, he’s connected to a strong power source. What is your source?
Now it’s your turn: What does confidence mean to you? What steps or experiences have developed and built you into having God-confidence? How has this translated to you achieving your passion, dreams, goals and purpose in life?
